Join Us in Celebrating the 50th Anniversary of American Indian Month in Minnesota!
Wednesday, May 1st is the Kick-Off Day to start the month-long events and activities in our community.
Each May we come together as community members, professionals, political leaders, American Indian people, and our allies to celebrate and recognize the presence of Native people in our state, both those residing in tribal nations and others living in urban spaces.
All organizations who serve Native American communities are invited to participate in the American Indian Kick-Off Day Parade on May 1st.
Floats, banners, posters are welcome.
Check-in for the parade at Cedar Field from 9:30 am – 10:00 am. The parade will start at 10:30 am after commencement speeches.
1st, 2nd, and 3rd places will be awarded to organizations/ people who show the best spirit!
Line up at Cedar Field Park along 18th street near Little Earth Residents Association to walk to the Minneapolis American Indian Center.
Cedar Field/ Little Earth: 9 am-10 am — Line up for the parade
Floats line up along 18th Ave. South – facing north towards 24th St.
10 am — Opening prayer and commencement speeches
10:30 am — Parade begins
Minneapolis American Indian Center: 12 pm — Parade arrives at MAIC.
M.A.I.C. Gym: 12:10 pm — Prayer for Community Feast. Meal catered by Yazzie the Chef
M.A.I.C. Gym: 12:15 pm — Briand Morrison performance
Wakiagun Field: 1 pm — Anishinabe Academy art performance
MAIC Upper Auditorium: 1 pm — Community Conversations panel
MAIC Gym: 2 pm — Fashion Show
MAIC Gym: 2 pm — Wesley May community art project
Wakiagun Field: 2 pm — John Hunter Lacrosse expo
